COGOP - Bishop Wilton PowellPosted by Administrator on 16/09/2009 14:23:03  Bishop Wilton Powell - The Church of God of Prophecy (COGOP) is one of the Britain's oldest black-led Pentecostal denominations. Founded in 1953, it has over 88 churches dotted throughout the UK, and 25,000 adherents. Bishop Powell has been involved in some of its key developments. He helped found the Nehemiah Housing Project, one of the largest black church based projects in the UK, (it recently merged with the United Churches Housing Association and is now called Nehemiah UCHA) providing over 1000 affordable properties. COGOP also runs three family centres across the UK and recently launched the International Development Agency for Missions, which provides support for impoverished communities in Africa. The COGOP has also formalised a partnership with the New Testament Church of God to combat social ills within the black community.
